Formula to determine if you and your spouse have to pay social insurance

Today I won’t be long-winded, let’s get straight to the point 😊

1. If your working hours per week and working days per month are 75% or more compared to a full-time employee contract:
YES -> you need to join the company’s social insurance
NO -> move to condition number 2.

2. If you meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • Working hours per week: 20 hours or more
  • Monthly salary: ¥88,000 or more
  • Contract duration: 2 months or more
  • Company size: 51 employees or more
  • You are not a student
    YES -> you need to join the company’s social insurance
    NO -> move to condition number 3.

3. Your spouse has joined social insurance (including pension insurance and health insurance):
NO -> you need to join National Pension Insurance and National Health Insurance
YES -> move to condition number 4.

4. Your annual income: ¥1.3 million or more:
YES -> you need to join National Pension Insurance and National Health Insurance
NO -> you are a dependent of your spouse and will enjoy your spouse’s social insurance benefits
